Pure presence meditation

This pure presence meditation invites you to rest deeply in the here and now, cultivating a sense of calm and spaciousness that helps quiet the mind and connect you to this very moment. Whether you’re new to meditation or seeking a fresh approach to mindfulness that you can practice any time of day, this episode is a soothing retreat into the beauty of the present moment.

This mediation was adapted from a script written by The Yoga and Ayurveda School (also know as Online Yoga School)

To rest in pure presence means to rest and find a way to be with your entire being – your thoughts and feelings, memories, bodily sensations…without trying to fix or label anything. Without trying to make things any different than they are right here in this moment…and this moment…and this moment.

Everything in this moment is invited to be part of your sensory experience. Every thought, sounds, sight, every taste on your lips, every smell and everything that is in contact with every part of your body.

Cultivating pure presence allows you to rest and to trust the flow of your life – it reminds you that whatever is here right now will change and shift. Nothing is permanent, everything is exactly as it should be right now.

When you can be right here, right now, you can trust that your life is as it should be – that you have nothing to escape or hide, nothing to rush, no need for urgency.

Through pure presence, you can live more fully…more focused on joy and gratitude in the simple things.

Rest your attention on your breath.

It’s natural for your mind to wander to other experiences in this moment – thoughts, physical sensations, feelings, emotions…invite all of these in. In this moment, there is nothing to push away, stop or back away from.

When you notice your mind wander away from your breath say – thinking.

When you rest back into your breath say – breathing.

When you hear a sound say – hearing.

When a thought, bodily sensation or emotion arises say – feeling.

No matter what arises, try to always return to your breath – breathing.

None of these are good or bad, right or wrong. Naming what you notice in the moment puts space between you and that stimulus. That space gives you the power to choose to return to your breath – breathing.
